The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE,has appointed Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, a renowned soil ecosystem expert, as the institution’s new Vice Chancellor.

Ogunwole, who currently serves as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Linkages, will assume office in February 2026, succeeding Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina as FUOYE’s fifth substantive Vice Chancellor.

The announcement was made in a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, following a council meeting chaired by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), on Thursday.

According to the statement, the appointment concluded a rigorous selection process that began in August with a public advertisement for the position.

Senator Ndoma-Egba described the process as “long and challenging,” urging members of the university community to unite behind the new Vice Chancellor.

“The appointment of a new Vice Chancellor has, unfortunately, caused rancour and acrimony both on and off campus. With this decision, I urge all parties to put aside differences and work together to build a stronger FUOYE,” Ndoma-Egba said.

He commended the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Fasina, for his outstanding leadership and infrastructural achievements during his tenure, noting that he leaves the university in a stronger position.

“You are leaving with your head held high. You have done well, and your legacy will endure,” he said.

Ndoma-Egba also praised members of the Governing Council for their diligence, commitment, and professionalism throughout the selection process, describing their collaboration as “a model of institutional integrity.”

The Pro-Chancellor later presented Professor Ogunwole with his formal letter of appointment, marking the official transition of leadership in the university’s administration.
