Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has presented a proposed ₦914.8 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, marking a significant increase from the previous year’s figure.
The governor, who laid the “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability 2.0” before lawmakers in Jos, said the proposal was designed to deepen progress achieved so far in infrastructure, governance, and social welfare.
He noted that his administration remained committed to sustaining development through responsible governance and inclusive policies.
Out of the total figure, ₦341.4 billion, representing 37.3%, is earmarked for capital projects — including roads, healthcare facilities, schools, and agricultural initiatives — while ₦573.5 billion, or 62.7%, will go to recurrent expenditure.
Mutfwang explained that the 2026 proposal reflects an increase of ₦306.7 billion over the approved 2025 budget.

He attributed this rise to his administration’s expanded development plans and its determination to address ongoing socio-economic and security challenges facing the state.
“Our focus is to serve the people of Plateau sincerely and without compromise,” the governor stated. “We will continue to work with security agencies to protect lives and ensure that our people can go about their daily activities in peace.”
He further assured residents that his administration would not derail from the long-term vision outlined in the Plateau State Strategic Development Framework 2023–2027, which prioritizes sustainable growth and good governance.
The PSDF, introduced in 2023, serves as a roadmap for the state’s transformation, emphasizing infrastructure renewal, economic diversification, and social inclusion.
Under this framework, the Mutfwang-led government has initiated several projects aimed at improving living conditions across urban and rural communities.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Na’anlong Daniel, commended the governor for the timely presentation of the budget.
He pledged that the House would give the proposal due scrutiny to ensure a transparent and efficient implementation process once approved.
Daniel added that the legislature remains committed to supporting the executive in achieving policies that would enhance the lives of Plateau citizens, especially through the prioritization of people-centered spending.
If approved, the 2026 budget will set the tone for the state’s continued recovery and growth, building on reforms that have strengthened governance and boosted confidence in the Plateau economy.
