Rising from a consultative meeting on Tuesdsy, members of the Kwara South APC Elders Forum have resolved that fairness and equity must prevail in the senatorial district ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The gathering energized ongoing discussions about ensuring that all blocs within Kwara South—Ekiti, Ibolo, and Igbomina—receive equitable opportunities in political representation.

During the meeting, which was hosted at the residence of Chief J.B. Ayeni, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and chairman of the forum, elders stressed the importance of maintaining unity and cohesion across the district.

The forum declared support for the “Igbomina Lokan” campaign, advocating that the Igbomina bloc be allowed to produce the next senator in 2027.

Stakeholders noted that the Ekiti bloc has held the senate seat for 12 years, while the Ibolo bloc, currently represented by Ashiru, will complete its 12-year term by 2027 when combined with previous tenure.

The Igbomina bloc, the largest of the three, has only had four years in office, making it equitable for the bloc to serve eight more years to achieve parity among the three blocs.

Tuesday’s meeting was considered “special” because it coincided with a visit from members of the Kwara South Unity Group, KSUG, who reaffirmed alignment with the APC elders’ position.

KSUG leader Engineer Adebayo Alao, alongside Professor Bashir Olaitan and Hon. Abdulrahman Akanni, thanked the elders for supporting the initiative and presented the value proposition of Engineer Nurudeen Adeyemi Balogun.

Professor Olaitan emphasized that Balogun’s track record and dedication made him deserving of recognition and support from the forum.

In an interview, Chief Ayeni reiterated that the forum meets fortnightly but highlighted that Tuesday’s session was crucial in energizing discussions around fairness in the senatorial district.

He emphasized that equitable rotation would allow each bloc—Ekiti, Ibolo, and Igbomina—to have a fair share of representation, thereby fostering unity.

Former Senator Bisi Oyewo of Oyun Local Government supported the forum’s stance, noting that the meeting aimed to finalize arrangements for backing the Igbomina bloc in 2027.

Plans are underway to engage local traditional rulers (Obas) and further consolidate support within the district, ensuring the Igbomina bloc’s turn is respected in accordance with established principles of equity.

The APC elders’ forum continues to play a pivotal role in shaping political consensus and promoting inclusivity within Kwara South, signaling a coordinated approach ahead of the forthcoming elections.
