Arsenal Wednesday night won the battle of Europe’s two most in-form teams. The first 45 minutes felt like high-quality shadow boxing between the two teams and managers, with Arsenal scoring from a set-piece and Bayern showing their class in possession.
But after half-time, Arsenal took the game to a place Bayern simply could not reach. Declan Rice led that increase in aggression and intensity, and Madueke and Martinelli’s goals showed the strength of Arsenal’s bench options.
That second half was one of Arsenal’s best under Arteta. Now they need to find that level again at Stamford Bridge.
