Revered Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi has passed away at the age of 98, ending an era of peaceful evangelism and peacebuilding among Muslims.
Usman-Bauchi died in the early hours of Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi. Malam Ahmed Mohammed, a family member, confirmed the death, noting that the scholar had been receiving visitors on Wednesday night before being admitted to the hospital.
The funeral prayer will be held on Friday, November 28, in Bauchi in accordance with Islamic rites.
Born in 1927 in Gombe, Usman-Bauchi was a recipient of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and regarded as one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars. He was celebrated for his profound knowledge, spiritual guidance, and lifelong dedication to the propagation of Islam.

He served as the supreme leader of the Tijjaniya in Nigeria, an Islamic Sufi order, and was renowned for teachings emphasizing moral discipline, tolerance, and adherence to Islamic principles. His guidance earned him widespread respect and a vast following both within Nigeria and abroad.
Over the decades, Usman-Bauchi contributed significantly to community development, mentoring young scholars and fostering interfaith understanding. He is survived by 61 children, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His legacy continues to inspire generations of Muslims and scholars across the country.
