Yagba West Local Government Council has intensified its security response for the festive season by extending the ongoing dusk-to-dawn curfew and introducing tougher enforcement measures across all communities.
The decision was confirmed on Friday by the Executive Chairman of Yagba West LGA and Chairman of Kogi State ALGON, Hon. Tosin Olokun, following a comprehensive security review that highlighted the need for heightened control of night-time activities.
The curfew, which runs from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily, remains in force across all communities within the Local Government Area.
Olokun explained that security agencies have jointly activated an expanded operational framework to ensure full compliance throughout the festive season.
He disclosed that the updated strategy covers increased night patrols, intensified checkpoints on major and inner roads, broadened surveillance across border communities, and coordinated intelligence operations aimed at detecting and preventing criminal activities before they occur.
“The Council has strengthened its security architecture for December. The curfew remains fully in place, and we have deployed even more robust enforcement measures to guarantee compliance,” he said. Olokun stressed that the initiative is designed to safeguard residents, reduce security vulnerabilities, and maintain peace during a period typically marked by heightened risks.
He cautioned that defaulters of the curfew will be arrested and prosecuted without exception. He added that the directive applies to individuals, transport operators, business owners, and all categories of night-time commuters, emphasizing that security agencies have been empowered to enforce the regulations strictly.

The Chairman commended the Joint Task Force, Vigilante groups, Hunters’ associations, and other community-based security formations for their sustained collaboration with the Council, acknowledging their roles in preventing criminal incidents in recent months.
He encouraged them to intensify their watch efforts as population movement, trade activities, and social events increase this season.
Residents, youth groups, traditional rulers, market leaders, and transport unions were urged to cooperate with security operatives, adhere strictly to the movement restrictions, and promptly report suspicious persons or unusual activities within their areas.
The Council noted that such cooperation remains essential to averting security breaches during the festive rush.
The Yagba West Local Government Council added that the curfew will be reviewed periodically based on continuous security assessments.
It reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains its top priority, particularly during periods of increased travel, celebrations, and economic engagements.
