Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has been reportedly arrested in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
Ngige was picked up by armed security operatives at his residence on Justice Mohammed Bello Road, Asokoro, Abuja. As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding the operation remain unclear, and no security agency has officially commented on the arrest.
Initial speculation on social media suggested that the former governor had been kidnapped, triggering widespread public concern. However, Ngige’s former media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, swiftly debunked the rumour, confirming instead that the former minister is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Chukwuelobe clarified the situation in a brief statement, saying:
“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”
The clarification came amid growing online misinformation surrounding Ngige’s whereabouts.
Ngige was also in the news recently when his convoy was attacked by armed men in Anambra State. He was not in the vehicle at the time of the attack.
