A bizarre smuggling method came to light in India as police arrested a 29-year-old Nigerian woman, Olajide Iyanuoluwa, after uncovering cocaine allegedly concealed inside bread loaves in Bengaluru.
Iyanuoluwa was arrested by operatives of the Karnataka Police’s Central Crime Branch, CCB, Narcotics Control Wing, who recovered 121 grams of cocaine valued at about Rs 1.20 crore (approximately N195m).
She has since been remanded in judicial custody, while processes to deport her to Nigeria have commenced.
The arrest followed intelligence that a foreign national residing at Grace Trust within the Varthur Police Station area of Bengaluru was involved in the distribution of cocaine to identified contacts in the city.
Acting on the tip-off, anti-narcotics operatives conducted a raid on Tuesday, leading to her apprehension.

Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, stated that the operation was carried out after careful surveillance and verification of the intelligence.
He said officers recovered the prohibited substance during the raid, along with a mobile phone believed to have been used to coordinate the illegal transactions and other incriminating items.
Investigations showed that Iyanuoluwa had allegedly smuggled the cocaine from Mumbai to Bengaluru. Further findings indicated that she arrived in India in 2024 on a student visa and initially settled in Delhi before relocating.
Police sources disclosed that the seized narcotics were ingeniously hidden inside loaves of bread in an attempt to evade detection. The suspect is expected to face prosecution under Indian narcotics laws before deportation proceedings are finalised.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine whether Iyanuoluwa acted alone or was part of a larger drug trafficking network operating across Indian cities.
