The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has reported the death of seven journalists in a lone auto crash involving a Nigeria Union of Journalists bus in Gombe State.
The accident occurred on Monday evening as the journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony in the Gombe South Senatorial District. The group had travelled to celebrate with a colleague from the Nigerian Television Authority.
Gombe State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Samson Kaura, said 11 people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“Eleven people were involved. Sadly, seven lost their lives, while four others sustained injuries,” he said.

Kaura stated that preliminary findings indicate it was a lone accident, with a suspected tyre burst.
“It appears to be a lone accident. Investigations are ongoing, but a tyre burst is suspected, after which the driver may have applied the brakes suddenly,” he said.
He added that FRSC rescue teams responded promptly and that the injured victims were taken to nearby health facilities for treatment. A detailed report will be released after investigations are concluded.
