The Kwara State Government is set to establish solar farms across all 16 Local Government Areas of the state to boost socio-economic development through improved renewable energy generation infrastructure statewide.
The Commissioner for Energy, AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy, announced the state government’s commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives on Wednesday during a technical inspection conducted at the proposed site for a solar farm, which is part of the state’s broader renewable energy planning efforts.
As part of the visit, the delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye Adetona I. This engagement underscored the importance of stakeholder participation in fostering positive community relations and promoting the acceptance of the solar farm project within the local community.
AbdulGaniy reiterated that the government had sustained its drive toward realising a sustainable renewable energy project for improved power supply statewide, economic growth, industrial expansion and inclusive development across Kwara State.
He explained that the site inspection was part of strategic efforts to identify technically and environmentally suitable locations for deploying solar energy infrastructure across the state sustainably and efficiently over time.
The commissioner said the initiative aimed to improve electricity supply, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents across communities statewide through renewable energy driven development programmes.

He noted the inspection followed earlier assessments by Energy China, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and recent technical surveys conducted by the ministry for data collection and energy planning purposes statewide implementation.
AbdulGaniy said the process aligned with collaboration involving the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Energy China, and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum on renewable energy development policy coordination, technical support funding frameworks nationally.
He reaffirmed Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to clean, reliable and affordable energy solutions as critical drivers of socio-economic growth and sustainable development in Kwara State for present and future generations statewide.
The Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba Jimoh Adetona I, commended the government, describing electricity as fundamental to community growth, while assuring full support for project implementation and sustained cooperation throughout construction phases. NAN
