A traditional ruler in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, the Sapeyi of Garki Chiefdom, Alhaji Usman Kupi has described the ongoing area council elections in the FCT as ‘relatively fair.’

Kupi also expressed optimism that voter turnout would improve as the day progressed.

Speaking shortly after casting his vote at polling unit 002, Garki, the royal father assessed the electoral process positively but noted that more residents were still expected to come out and participate in the exercise.

“The process has been relatively fair, but we are still expecting more people to come out and vote,” he said.

The traditional ruler also shared his expectations for the election outcome, emphasising his desire for a peaceful process.

On the security situation in the FCT, the royal father described it as stable, commending the efforts of the minister, Nyesom Wike, the police and other security agencies in tackling challenges such as kidnapping and banditry.

“I believe the security situation in the FCT is okay. The minister and the police, along with other security agencies, have been working—especially at night—to address issues such as kidnapping and banditry.

“It remains a peaceful place overall,” he said.

A physically challenged voter at polling unit 002, Garki, Mr Abraham Audu, arrived at the polling unit, leaning gently on his son’s arm.

NAN reports that despite living with a disability, he wore a calm smile, determined to take part in the day’s election, an act he considered both a right and a responsibility.

With the assistance provided at the polling unit and the steady support of his son, Audu completed the process without difficulty.

He said: “I was assisted and I did it successfully. No problem, no challenge. Everything is going on well. I did not meet any trouble here and I am happy.”

Audu called on government to remember the grassroots and those who could not go out easily as well as struggling every day.

“Let them remember us in their plans and positions so we can feel recognised,” he said.
