President Bola Tinubu has named Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu as the acting Inspector-General of Police.
Tinubu said Disu’s experience and operational depth would provide steady leadership for the force at a critical time.
In compliance with the Police Act 2020, the President will ask the Nigeria Police Council to consider Disu’s appointment as substantive IGP.
His name will subsequently be transmitted to the Senate for confirmation.

Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening national security and institutional capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.
The President earlier Tuesday accepted the resignation of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.iG
Presidential spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga disclosed that Egbetokun resigned owing to pressing family considerations.
Tinubu expressed appreciation for his decades of distinguished service to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation.
He acknowledged Egbetokun’s dedication, professionalism and commitment to strengthening internal security during his tenure.
Appointed in June 2023, Egbetokun was serving a four-year term scheduled to conclude in June 2027 under the amended Police Act.
