Mr Jacob Ejeh, the new Comptroller of Seme Command, Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, on Monday said that the men and officers of the command are combat-ready to tackle any form of terrorism at the border post.

Ejeh gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Seme, Lagos.

According to him, there are two Nigerian military formations in Badagry—243 Battalion Barracks and 15 Field Engineer Regiment—whose primary responsibility is to protect the nation’s sovereignty.

“They are always ready to provide us full support in any emergency. As gatekeepers securing the border post, we remain vigilant against all forms of insurgency.

“With the cooperation of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, especially the Air Force, any act of terrorism will be crushed.

“The military is always ready to back us at any time here in Seme, and we are combat-ready to tackle any form of terrorism,” he said.

Ejeh added that security agencies at the border post maintained a strong working relationship to protect the country’s sovereignty.

“Today, security agencies synergise, cooperate, and partner effectively. In Nigeria, we have realised that no single agency can act alone.

“There must be coordination to achieve our objectives, as we are all working for the same government. Gone are the days of inter-agency rivalry within law enforcement.

“We now understand the importance of collaboration, which is what we are practicing,” he said.

The controller also stated that the command was working hard to ensure safe and regular migration at the Seme border.

“Our core mandate is to curb illegal migration, and our philosophy is safe, orderly, and regular migration. The command is doing everything possible to curb illegal migration along this corridor,” he said.

Ejeh appealed to journalists to always get all sides of a story before publication.

“We need your support, especially when you see or hear anything. Let us work together. Ensure you hear from us and other relevant sources before publishing your stories, so they are balanced and objective,” he said
