An editor with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Martha Agas, has been selected as a finalist for the Women Changing the World Global Awards to hold  April in Paris, France.

Agas was selected from more than 1,500 nominations from 97 countries as a finalist in the Woman in Media category.

The organisation published the finalists on Monday on its website https://wcwawards.com/finalists/.

She was nominated for the award as a development journalist for telling stories that highlight vulnerable and marginalised communities and draw attention to critical social issues.

According to the coordinator of the awards, Anne Santos, the finalists’ written submissions will be independently assessed and scored by an international panel of judges.

“The highest-scoring finalists will be awarded Winner, Runner-Up and Third Place,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Women Changing the World Global Awards was conceived to recognise women creating meaningful impact across communities, industries and countries around the world.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Women Changing the World Global Awards celebrate women making significant contributions in fields such as media, leadership, innovation, education and community development. The initiative aims to highlight individuals whose work is creating positive change across societies.

Agas has built a reputation as a development journalist through her reports on gender issues, social justice, governance and the plight of vulnerable groups. Her stories have focused on amplifying voices that are often underrepresented in mainstream media.

Colleagues and media stakeholders have congratulated the journalist on the recognition, describing her selection as a testament to the growing impact of Nigerian journalists on the global stage and an encouragement for reporters committed to impactful storytelling.
