According to sources, the attack began from Ajilari-Cross general areas when the terrorists opened fire around 12:35 a.m., prompting a swift response from the joint security agencies, including the military, Nigeria police force and others.
The sounds of gun battle threw the residents into panic and confusion, as they did across the city.
Many residents of Dala, Bulamari, and Ajilari Cross reportedly fled their homes in search of safety as the situation escalated.
A source near the Dala community said that military personnel had told hundreds of people in the area to flee their homes.

“Yes, there is a suspected terrorist attack at Ajilari Cross. I am currently on my way to the scene. I will give you details later,” he said.
Similarly, Nigerian troops in the early hours on Monday morning repelled an attempt by the terrorist group in the Damboa Local Government Area of the state.
The attacks were carried out simultaneously by the deadly group both on the outskirts of Maiduguri city and Damboa Town in the southern part of the state.
The attack reportedly began around 12:35 a.m. when the insurgents opened fire in the Ajilari-Cross general area, causing widespread panic among residents. Many people in nearby communities rushed out of their homes in search of safety as the sound of gunshots and explosions echoed across parts of the city.
Security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army, Air Force and the Nigeria Police Force, swiftly responded to the assault, engaging the attackers in a gun battle that eventually forced them to retreat. Similar attempts by the terrorists to attack Damboa town in the southern part of Borno State were also repelled by troops during the early hours of Monday.
