The Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday paid a working visit to Borno State, a day after multiple explosions were reported in Maiduguri, leaving several people injured, according to security and emergency officials.
The blasts occurred around the city’s Monday Market shortly after iftar, with another reported at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. Police said joint security teams, including explosives experts, were deployed to the affected locations as assessments and clearance operations began.
During the visit, Disu met victims receiving treatment and expressed sympathy to families affected by the incident. He also inspected the Monday Market area to assess damage, and held security briefings with senior officers to review operational posture in the state.
Borno’s Deputy Governor, Usman Umar Kadafur, who received the IGP in Maiduguri, described the quick visit as a signal of seriousness and a morale boost for residents still living with the threat of insurgent violence. He pledged continued collaboration between the state government and security agencies to consolidate gains recorded in recent years.

At the Borno State Police Command, Disu charged officers to heighten vigilance, deepen intelligence gathering and remain proactive, while urging residents to stay security-conscious and support law enforcement with timely information.
The IGP also assured personnel of improved logistics and operational support.
Maiduguri remains central to the Boko Haram insurgency that began in 2009, with splinter factions also active across the North-East. Although security operations have degraded insurgent capabilities, attacks on soft targets and crowded areas have persisted intermittently.
Police in Borno have in the past reported the recovery of unexploded devices and have repeatedly urged residents to report suspicious objects and movements—an alert reinforced after an earlier incident in which officers said they rendered safe a device discovered in Maiduguri.
