kThe Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has restricted over 300 articulated vehicles and trucks from movement on the ever-busy Kugbo outbound corridor during peak hours in Abuja.

The FRSC recorded this significant success since the commencement its ongoing enforcement operation code-named “Operation Safe Kugbo” in Abuja.

A statement by the Acting Public Education Officer, ACPEO, Mrs Felicia Kalu on Wednesday in Abuja said that the exercise began on March 19.

Kalu said that the operation was a proactive initiative conceived by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, and driven at the sector level.

She said that it was strategically designed to mitigate road traffic crashes in line with the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations, particularly Section 223, as well as the extant FCT Traffic Regulations.

She added that it also aligned with the Corps’ 2026 Corporate Strategic Goal 1, which prioritised the reduction of road traffic crashes and fatalities nationwide.

“On Day two of the operation, the Unit Commander, Nyanya led a team of dedicated operatives in a well-coordinated enforcement drive that resulted in the restriction of 96 articulated vehicles/trucks during peak periods.

“This was the highest record of restriction since commencement.

“The cumulative total of restricted vehicles since the operation began was about 300, reflecting an elevated level of compliance and operational effectiveness within a short period”, she said.

Kalu noted with satisfaction that since the commencement of “Operation Safe Kugbo”, the corridor had recorded zero road traffic crashes involving articulated vehicles during the restricted hours.

This, she said was a development that underscored the impact of proactive traffic management and strict enforcement.

“To ensure seamless execution, the operation was supported by adequate logistics, strategic deployment of personnel, and real-time traffic monitoring.

“These all of which contributed to improved traffic flow and enhanced safety along the corridor,” she added.

Kalu reiterated that the restriction was not punitive, but a necessary safety measure aimed at protecting lives and property.

This, she maintained were especially during high-traffic periods when the risks associated with heavy duty vehicles are significantly elevated.

“Motorists, fleet operators, and truck drivers are therefore urged to continue to cooperate with the Corps by complying fully with the stipulated restrictions,” she said.

The FRSC spokesperson assured the public of the Corps commitment to sustaining the operation and replicating similar safety driven initiatives across other critical corridors within the Federal Capital Territory and beyond.

“By this therefore, the public is reminded that the Corps remains resolute in its mandate to creating a safer motoring environment for all road users,” she affirmed.
