Dr Adebowale Adedokun, Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, has been honored as Public Sector Reformer of the Year at the Face of Africa Leadership Honor held in London.

A statement issued by Zira Nagga, Head Press and Public Relations, BPP, on Saturday in Abuja, said the event was organized by Triangle International Magazine.

According to the statement the event attracted policymakers, business leaders and members of the Nigerian diaspora to celebrate excellence in leadership and governance across Africa.

It said Adedokun’s recognition followed a series of reforms in Nigeria’s procurement system under his leadership at the BPP, which stakeholders have said has improved transparency, accountability and ease of doing business.

The statement said the reforms include strengthened regulatory frameworks, digitization of procurement processes and enhanced compliance mechanisms across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

“These efforts have contributed to Nigeria’s growing global reputation in public procurement, with recent reports placing the country among the top-performing nations in procurement standards and practices.”

It said, according to the organizers, the recognition marks another milestone in Adedokun’s tenure, adding that sustained improvements in the procurement space had positioned him as a key driver of public sector reform.

“They also linked the progress to the administration of President Bola Tinubu, noting that ongoing efforts to promote accountability and good governance were gradually restoring investor confidence and enhancing Nigeria’s attractiveness for foreign direct investment.”

It said participants who spoke at the event, including members of the Nigerian business community in the United Kingdom, commended the BPP boss for transforming the procurement sector into a more transparent and competitive system.

“They said the reforms had reduced bureaucratic bottlenecks and created opportunities for both local and diaspora investors to participate in government contracts.

“The recognition, stakeholders added, reflects the broader reform agenda of the Tinubu administration, which prioritizes institutional strengthening, transparency and economic competitiveness.

“Observers at the event commended the president for appointing capable hands and providing the enabling environment for reforms to thrive.”

Meanwhile, in his remarks, Adedokun dedicated the award to President Tinubu and reaffirmed his commitment to deepening reforms in the procurement sector.

“This recognition is not just for me; it is first and foremost for Mr President, whose transformative leadership has been the inspiration we continue to leverage.

“It is also for the entire team at the BPP, as well as the administration, which has supported these reforms.

We will continue to work towards a procurement system that reflects global best practices and serves the Nigerian people effectively,” he said.
