Police attached to the Ijebu Imushin Division of the Ogun State Police Command have reportedly foiled a truck hijacking incident and successfully recovered a DAF truck, as well as a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped in black tape.

The incident, according to a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson for the state police command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, was reported in the early hours of Wednesday, following a distress call by a driver who was accosted by hoodlums while conveying motor spare parts.

Babaseyi explained that preliminary findings revealed that the driver was intercepted by suspected hoodlums in the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state, where the truck was forcefully taken from him.

He further stated that, “Upon receipt of the report, detectives, in collaboration with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilized to the scene, forcing the suspects to abandon the truck and flee under pressure.

“The prompt intervention of the police effectively thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property.

“The driver, who sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was promptly administered first aid treatment.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni commended the swift and professional response of the operatives and reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users and residents.
