The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, AMVCA, has celebrated African film and television excellence, with “My Father’s Shadow,” “Colours of Fire,” and “Lisabi: A Legend Is Born” among the biggest winners.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the star-studded event, held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, brought together top actors, filmmakers, producers, and entertainers from across the continent.

“My Father’s Shadow” clinched the coveted Best Movie award and also won Best Director for Akinola Davies Jr., cementing its status as one of the night’s standout productions.

Uzor Arukwe won the Best Lead Actor category for his performance in “Colours of Fire,” while Linda Ejiofor secured the Best Lead Actress award for her role in “The Serpent’s Gift.”

In the supporting categories, Bucci Franklin took home the Best Supporting Actor award for “To Kill A Monkey,” while Linda Ejiofor added another plaque to her collection with a Best Supporting Actress win for her role as Adamma in the “The Herd”.

Historical epic, “Lisabi: A Legend Is Born”, produced by Lateef Adedimeji, won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa).

Uche Montana received the Trailblazer Award in recognition of her growing influence and impact in the entertainment industry.

The ceremony also recognised veteran actors Sola Sobowale and Kanayo O. Kanayo with the Industry Merit Award for their contributions to African cinema.

Other notable winners included “To Kill A Monkey “for Best Editing, “Beyond Olympic Glory” for Best Documentary, and “Inimba” for Best Series (Scripted).

NAN reports that the 12th edition of the AMVCA featured 32 award categories celebrating achievements in film, television and digital content creation across Africa.

In a disturbing development, former Big Brother Naija All Stars winner, Ilebaye Odiniya, sparked outrage after an emotional Instagram live video allegedly showed her being assaulted by her father.

The live session, which captured the reality star pleading for help while visibly injured, drew widespread reactions, prompting swift intervention from authorities.

It heightened conversations around domestic violence.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the arrest of her father, assuring the public that investigations were ongoing and that justice would be pursued.

On the global stage, Nigerian singer Rema is set to perform at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles on June 12.

Rema joins an international lineup including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, and Tyla at the global spectacle.

Meanwhile, Nigerian superstar Burna Boy and Colombian pop icon, Shakira, have collaborated on the official World Cup anthem titled “Dai Dai,” set for release May 14.

The collaboration is expected to heighten anticipation for the tournament, which will be hosted across United States, Mexico, and Canada.

In reality television, organisers of Big Brother Naija confirmed that Season 11 auditions are imminent, sparking excitement among fans awaiting participation details.

Although official dates remain undisclosed, fans anticipate a May audition window based on previous editions, as anticipation continues to build across social media platforms nationwide.
