A Policeman, apparently riding against traffic, was killed on Sunday on the Third Mainland Bridge, in ward Iyana Oworo, Lagos.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, LASTMA General Manager, in a statement disclosed that the accident occurred when a Lexus vehicle (EPE 765 JN) rammed into a police officer riding a Bajaj motorcycle on the bridge.
“The officer died on the spot,” Bakare-Oki said. The driver of the Lexus reportedly turned himself in at Adekunle Police Division shortly after the crash.
Following distress calls, LASTMA officials, in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, arrived to manage traffic and begin emergency response.
“Traffic cones and safety devices were strategically placed to prevent further accidents, while police operatives documented the incident,” he said.
