Former Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has praised the Nigeria Police Force for demonstrating its competence and operational capacity to tackle criminality following the rescue of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, from kidnappers’ captivity.

In a statement issued on Sunday by family representative Femi Awogboro, the Adelabu family expressed profound gratitude to God, security agencies, government officials, and Nigerians whose prayers and support contributed to the successful rescue.

Awogboro said the family was delighted that the victims were rescued safely and found to be in good condition, describing the development as evidence that Nigeria’s security institutions can effectively combat crime when given adequate support.

He particularly commended the Nigeria Police Force, saying the successful operation underscored the professionalism, diligence, and tactical competence of the police in confronting criminal elements.

According to him, the family deeply appreciates the Inspector-General of Police, the leadership of the Police Force Headquarters, the Oyo State Police Command, and the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State for their tireless efforts and professionalism throughout the rescue operation.

The family also acknowledged the role of the Department of State Services, including its national leadership and the Oyo State Directorate, for their intelligence-driven contributions to securing the victims’ freedom.

Awogboro noted that the outcome sends a strong message that insecurity can be curbed through effective collaboration among security agencies, government institutions, and citizens. He stressed that criminality remains a common enemy that must be confronted collectively, beyond politics, ethnicity, or religion.

He added that with sustained public support and cooperation, the Nigerian Police and other security agencies have the capacity to make the country safer and protect lives and property.

The statement also thanked President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, leaders of the All Progressives Congress, political associates, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and other Nigerians for standing by the family during the ordeal.

While celebrating the rescue, the family said its thoughts remain with other victims of kidnapping still in captivity, calling for continued prayers and support for efforts to secure their freedom.

The Nigeria Police Force had earlier confirmed the rescue of Mrs. Busayo Adelabu-John Paul and her twin sons, who were abducted on June 3 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, said the victims were rescued around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday during a coordinated operation by the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team in Ibadan.

He said sustained intelligence gathering, surveillance, and tactical operations led operatives to the kidnappers, resulting in a confrontation in which two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded and two rifles recovered.

Placid said the victims were rescued unharmed and are currently receiving medical care and support, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate.

The abduction of Adelabu’s sister and her sons had sparked concern across Oyo State and beyond, but the family said the successful rescue has reinforced confidence in the ability of the police and other security agencies to curb criminality in the country.
