The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has postponed the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course for prospective corps members deployed to Niger State following ongoing renovation works at the state orientation camp in Paiko.

The development was announced in a statement by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, stating that the postponement became necessary due to extensive damage caused by a recent windstorm at the Paiko orientation camp, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation by the Niger State Government.

The storm reportedly damaged several facilities, including male hostels, the multipurpose hall, kitchen and staff quarters. Following the incident, Governor Mohammed Bago ordered immediate repair works to restore the camp.

The scheme said efforts were underway to secure an alternative venue for the exercise and assured affected prospective corps members that a new date for the commencement of the orientation course would be announced in due course.

“Consequently, NYSC Management is making urgent arrangements to secure an alternative venue for the Orientation Course.

“A new commencement date and other relevant details will be communicated to affected Prospective Corps Members in due course,” the statement said.

The NYSC expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement may cause prospective corps members and their families, while appealing for understanding and cooperation.

Infrastructure-related disruptions have also affected orientation activities in other parts of the country this year. Similar adjustments were made in Enugu and Osun states due to renovation projects at their respective camps.

The 2026 Batch B Stream I orientation exercise began nationwide on June 10 and is expected to conclude on June 30. However, prospective corps members posted to Niger State will now await further directives from the NYSC regarding a new venue or reporting date.

The federal government has introduced a new requirement for prospective corps members as part of efforts to curb certificate fraud and strengthen the credibility of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, mobilization process.

The NYSC has reaffirmed that all Prospective Corps Members, PCMs, must now present a compliance certificate from the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank, NERD, before they can be mobilized for national service.
