Sarah Araba Tettey, 26, has died after reportedly collapsing while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

According to Ghanaian news outlet, Citi Newsroom, the incident occurred on Wednesday at Standard Hostel, a private hostel in Bomso near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

Tettey, an alumna of the university’s Faculty of Law, was said to have been watching the match with friends when she suddenly collapsed during post-match celebrations.

According to the report, Tettey was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and was practicing with O & A Legal Consult.

Sources indicated that doctors and emergency responders administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation, CPR, for approximately 45 minutes in an effort to revive her. Despite the intensive medical intervention, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The sudden passing of the young lawyer has sent shockwaves through the legal fraternity, particularly among her colleagues from KNUST, the Ghana School of Law and members of the Bar who had recently celebrated her admission to the legal profession.

Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with friends, colleagues and former classmates mourning what many described as the loss of a promising young lawyer.

As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by her family regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.

The exact cause of death has also not been officially confirmed by her family or medical authorities.

Her death has cast a shadow over what was otherwise a moment of national celebration as Ghanaians rejoiced over the Black Stars’ successful start to their World Cup campaign.

The body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy and funeral arrangements.
