The Nigerian Army has issued an urgent warning to the public over what it described as fraudulent attempts by impostors and criminal syndicates to solicit funds for the Nigerian Army Day Celebration, NADCEL, 2026.

In a statement issued by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations Wednesday, the Army said fake letters, proposals and sponsorship requests have been circulated to individuals, financial institutions, corporate organisations and government agencies by people falsely claiming to represent the institution and seeking financial support for the event.

The Army stressed that any request for funds, sponsorship, donations or partnerships not expressly authorised through official Nigerian Army channels is fraudulent and should be treated as a criminal act.

It clarified that NADCEL 2026 is an official event scheduled to hold from July 1 to July 6, 2026, as part of activities marking the 163rd anniversary of the Nigerian Army. However, it said all legitimate communication concerning the celebration would only come through recognised and verifiable Nigerian Army platforms and channels.

The Army warned members of the public, corporate bodies, financial institutions and government agencies to exercise caution and not to respond to or honour any unsolicited financial request made in its name without proper verification.

According to the statement, the Nigerian Army does not authorise, condone or support any form of fundraising carried out by individuals or groups claiming to act on its behalf.

It further warned that anyone found impersonating the institution, forging official documents or engaging in fraudulent solicitation would be pursued, apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The public was also urged to promptly report any suspicious communication, request or activity to the nearest military formation, security agency or law enforcement authority.

The Army said it has intensified efforts, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Military Police and other relevant security agencies, to identify, track and bring those behind the alleged fraud to justice.

It added that it remains committed to protecting the public from exploitation and expressed appreciation for the vigilance, cooperation and continued support of well-meaning Nigerians.
