For the umpteenth time, the Federal Government has vowed to secure the release of Nigerians held by bandits and other criminal groups, declaring that the safe return of citizens in captivity remains a top national priority.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume gave the assurance on Friday while receiving the leadership of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, FOMWAN, led by its National Amirah, Dr. Sumaye Fadimatu Hamza.
Akume said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is intensifying security efforts and coordinated interventions to free those in captivity of bandits and curb kidnapping and related crimes across the country.
“Our mission on earth, our goal on earth is to promote, to preserve, and to prolong life. It is not to shorten it. The government is doing everything to secure the release of all who are captured,” he said.

He stressed that protecting the lives and property of Nigerians remains one of government’s most urgent responsibilities, expressing confidence that ongoing security operations will deliver results.
The SGF also called on faith-based organisations to sustain prayers and support for the administration, describing them as critical partners in the push for peace, national unity and social progress.
He commended FOMWAN for its longstanding contributions to national development through advocacy, humanitarian service and moral guidance, noting that the organisation continues to play a strategic role in strengthening communities.
Dr. Hamza said FOMWAN remains committed to promoting the values of Islam through Da’awah while advancing the welfare of women, youths and children through education, healthcare, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and advocacy.
She praised the Federal Government’s efforts in security, education, humanitarian response, social protection and women’s development, but urged further action to strengthen intelligence gathering, community engagement and protection for vulnerable communities.
Hamza also called for stronger institutional collaboration between FOMWAN and the Federal Government to expand the association’s impact in women’s empowerment, youth development, peacebuilding and community welfare.
