Canadian superstar rapper, Drake, has once again made headlines with a massive sports bet, wagering approximately $770,000 on his home country Canada to defeat South Africa in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 encounter.

Stake, the betting platform with which Drake has a known partnership, shared details of the high-stakes wager on Sunday. The bet, placed through Stake, offers a potential payout of $1 million if Canada knocks out South Africa.

Drake captioned the post referencing banter with South African DJ Black Coffee, stating, “#realblackcoffee was chirping in the DM. I had to raise my stakes. “The announcement has sparked widespread reactions online, particularly among football fans in Nigeria and across Africa, with many viewing the bet as emblematic of Drake’s bold confidence in his Canadian roots despite the “Drake curse” – a perceived jinx where teams he supports often falter.

Social media users quickly weighed in on the development. #Tunnykvng tweeted, “Hope Drake don’t jinx them,” while #NoodleHairCR7 commented, “Drake is cooking man.”

Others expressed skepticism, with #toddradd1 noting, “Drake curse is real, all in South Africa to qualify.” And #KickClipper added, “Drake really put the curse on Canada just to win $1,000,000 on Stake,” as #Velvetwall6 declared, “Canada vs South Africa today this one’s personal man”.

The wager comes as the two nations face off in a crucial knockout stage match, heightening the drama surrounding the encounter.

Drake, known for his high-profile bets on various sports including the NFL, the NBA, and the UFC, has a history of publicizing such wagers, often through platforms like Stake.

The Grammy-winning artist has previously placed significant wagers, sometimes winning big but also facing notable losses, as seen in past high-stakes predictions.

Fans across platforms await the outcome with anticipation, turning what would be a standard knockout fixture into a celebrity-fueled spectacle.
