President Bola Tinubu has expressed joy over the successful rescue of the pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Tinubu commended the military, the Department of State Services, DSS, and the Nigeria Police for securing the victims’ release after 56 days in captivity, Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga said on Friday in Abuja.

The president praised the security agencies for rescuing the victims without collateral damage, and for arresting eight suspected kidnappers and neutralising others during the operation.

He assured the victims and their families that all those responsible for the crime would face justice.

He said “my government will get justice for these children and their teachers and for the family of Mr Oyedokun, who the terrorists gruesomely murdered.”

Tinubu also sympathised with the rescued children, the teachers and their families and Nigerians over the trauma caused by the abduction.

“I am profoundly happy that our security forces successfully rescued the abducted pupils and teachers from Orire, Ogbomoso after a military, police and intelligence-driven operation,” he added.

He described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping and terrorism.

He said “this successful military operation has ended the siege and standoff of over 50 days and has brought relief to the entire nation and the affected families in particular.”

The president thanked members of the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies and the police for their professionalism and sacrifice.

“On behalf of the country, I express my gratitude to the officers and men of our armed forces, the intelligence agencies and the police for the safe rescue of the children and their teachers,” he noted.

He also commended the Oyo State Government for its cooperation throughout the rescue operation.

The president further directed emergency agencies to work with the Oyo State Government to provide medical care, counselling and other relief support for the rescued pupils and teachers.
