The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has hailed the safe return of the students and teachers who were kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15.
The PDP faction said the release of the victims was a welcome development and stressed that protecting lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of the government.
In a statement issued on Friday by the National Publicity Secretary of its Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party expressed relief over the safe return of the students and teachers.
“Although details of the rescue remain limited, we commend the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government, security agencies, and all individuals and organizations whose efforts contributed to the safe return of the victims,” the statement said.
The News Agency of Nigeria NAN reports that the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had, on Friday, confirmed the rescue of the students and teachers in a post on his X account.

The PDP described the abduction as a traumatic experience, stressing that no one should be subjected to such an ordeal in the pursuit of education.
It called on the Federal Government to take decisive steps to prevent a recurrence of such heinous acts, noting that Nigerians deserve to live and learn in a secure environment.
“The protection of lives and property remains the first responsibility of the government and is the irreducible minimum that our country and its citizens deserve,” the statement added.
