The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Africa CDC, has welcomed an additional $2.5 million in emergency funding from the Government of China to strengthen Ebola response efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
Africa CDC Director-General, Dr Jean Kaseya, said this on Friday via his official X handle, saying the contribution was formally handed over by China’s Ambassador to the African Union, Jiang Feng, during a ceremony.
Kaseya said the latest contribution increases China’s total direct support to 4.5 million dollars and would strengthen frontline operations, protect health workers and affect communities, and accelerate efforts to contain outbreaks.

Expressing appreciation for the support, Kaseya said: “The funds will bolster frontline operations, protect health workers and affect communities, and accelerate efforts to contain the outbreak” across affected countries in Africa.
He also thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Government and people of China for their continued solidarity with Africa, describing the support as timely and critical to ongoing emergency response efforts.
