FubaraRivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has declared his support for the Rainbow Coalition backed by Minister Nyesom Wike and endorsed All Progressives Congress governorship candidate Kingsley Chinda as his preferred successor.

The endorsement, announced on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Rivers Medical Industries Project in Port Harcourt, marks a significant step in the reconciliation between Fubara and Wike after months of political conflict. Fubara also urged his supporters to back Chinda and all candidates under the coalition.

“We have made peace in the state, and we have a total agreement,” the governor said. “I am supporting our rainbow party, our rainbow coalition. President Bola Tinubu is our president and he is the one we are supporting.

“Chinda is the governorship candidate that I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support him and every candidate under the rainbow.

“For those of you saying, ‘Fubara, let’s stay, we want to collect something before we run,’ there is nothing to collect. I am already in the family. I have gone back to our family. So please, wherever you are, give your total support to that coalition.”

Chinda, a former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, emerged as the APC governorship candidate after winning the party’s primary unopposed in May, polling 268,497 votes.

Fubara had initially been screened alongside Chinda for the APC governorship primary but later withdrew from the race, saying his decision was driven by a desire to preserve peace and unity in Rivers State.

Ahead of the party primaries, the APC screening committee reportedly disqualified several aspirants aligned with Fubara from the Rivers State House of Assembly contests while clearing candidates considered loyal to Wike.

Fubara and Wike had been embroiled in a prolonged political crisis that sparked impeachment efforts by lawmakers loyal to the FCT minister.

The rivalry has since eased following a political truce, culminating in Fubara’s public endorsement of the coalition backed by his former political ally.
