Former Crystal Palace manager, Patrick Vieira, is in talks to become the head coach of Senegal’s football national team.
As reported by Foot Mercato, via Fabrizio Romano, conversations are currently taking place for the Frenchman to replace Pape Thiaw as manager of the Teranga Lions.
The report also added that the process remains at an early stage and no agreement has been reached yet.
The Senegalese Football Federation is said to be interested in appointing Vieira, citing his vast coaching experience in Europe’s top leagues, his ability to nurture young talent, and his tactical expertise
The federation is keen to appoint a high-profile coach capable of rebuilding the squad and guiding the team back to competing for major honors after its disappointing Round of 32 exit at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Before taking charge of Crystal Palace in the Premier League in 2021, Vieira managed Major League Soccer side New York City FC, where he won the MLS Coach of the Year award in 2016, before moving to French club Nice in 2018. He later coached Crystal Palace, helping the club reach the FA Cup semi-finals during the 2021–22 season, before leaving in 2023.
He subsequently managed French side Strasbourg and Italian Serie A club Genoa, further strengthening his managerial résumé.
The Senegalese Football Federation has expressed an interest in the Arsenal legend, who has coached Strasbourg, Nice and Genoa, for the vacant head coach position.
Senegal recently parted ways with Thiaw after he guided the team to the Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Teranga Lions were eliminated by Belgium. The federation is now looking for a coach with international pedigree and experience in elite European football to lead the country’s next generation of players.
