The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery gang accused of dispossessing motorcycle riders of their motorcycles in the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that police operatives also recovered three motorcycles and two pump-action guns from the suspects.

Edafe said the suspects were arrested on July 27 by operatives attached to the Ekpan Police Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to him, the arrests followed reports of robbery incidents allegedly involving the gang along Jakpa Road, prompting the police to commence a targeted investigation.

“The police operatives launched a targeted investigation that led to the initial arrest of the two principal suspects,” Edafe said.

He explained that information obtained from the two suspects during interrogation enabled investigators to identify and arrest two additional members of the gang.

The police spokesperson said the suspects allegedly specialized in dispossessing motorcycle riders of their motorcycles during robbery operations.

The recovery of three motorcycles is expected to assist investigators in determining whether the vehicles were among those allegedly stolen from victims during the gang’s operations.

The recovery of two pump-action guns has also added to the evidence being examined by investigators as the command works to establish the full extent of the suspects’ alleged activities. The four suspects remain in police custody while investigation continues.

Edafe said efforts were also underway to apprehend other alleged members of the gang and bring them to justice.

The latest arrests come amid broader concerns over robbery and other forms of criminal activity affecting commuters, commercial transport operators and residents across parts of Nigeria.

The Delta State Police Command said the investigation would continue with a view to identifying other members of the alleged gang and prosecuting those found culpable.
