Defending champions, Nigeria’s Super Falcons secured a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after an emphatic 6-2 victory over Egypt’s Cleopatras on Wednesday.

Justine Madugu’s side finished second in Group C behind the Scorchers of Malawi.

Egypt started brightly, enjoying plenty of possession in the opening exchanges, but it was Nigeria who broke the deadlock in the 21st minute.

Asisat Oshoala calmly converted from the penalty spot after the Super Falcons were awarded a spot-kick for a handball inside the area.

Substitute Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s advantage four minutes before half-time, finishing off a fine assist from Rinsola Babajide.

The Cleopatras pulled one back in first-half stoppage time when Nadine Ghazi converted from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit.

Nigeria took complete control after the restart. Substitute Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal cushion, slotting home from close range after another excellent delivery from Babajide.

Christy Ucheibe made it 4-1 in the 81st minute, confidently converting Nigeria’s second penalty of the evening.

Ghazi grabbed her second goal with a superb strike from outside the box to give Egypt brief hope, but the Super Falcons responded immediately as Captain Rasheedat Ajibade converted another penalty after Michelle Alozie was brought down inside the area.

Substitute Joy Omewa put the result beyond doubt deep into stoppage time, scoring Nigeria’s sixth goal to complete an impressive 6-2 victory and seal the Super Falcons’ place in the last eight.
