Cape Verde international goalkeeper Vozinha has completed a move to Chilean football powerhouse Colo-Colo, ending weeks of speculation over his future after emerging as one of the breakout stars of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced shot-stopper, whose real name is Jorge Elídio Fortes Tavares, arrives at the Santiago-based club after producing a string of memorable performances for Cape Verde during the World Cup, where his reflex saves and commanding displays helped the African nation earn widespread admiration on the global stage.

Although financial details of the deal were not immediately disclosed, Colo-Colo confirmed the signing, describing Vozinha as a goalkeeper who brings leadership, experience and composure to the squad as the club prepares for the second half of the season and upcoming continental competitions.

The move represents another milestone in the remarkable career of the veteran goalkeeper, who has become one of Cape Verde’s most celebrated footballers. At 39, Vozinha continues to defy expectations with consistent performances at both club and international level.

Vozinha became one of the most talked-about goalkeepers at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, producing several crucial saves that helped Cape Verde compete against more established football nations.

His calm presence, shot-stopping ability and leadership from the back drew praise from football analysts and former players, while highlight reels of his saves quickly spread across social media platforms, earning millions of views.

Supporters around the world praised his resilience and passion, with many describing him as one of the tournament’s surprise stars.

Away from the pitch, Vozinha experienced an explosion in popularity on social media following the World Cup.

Videos celebrating his performances, emotional reactions after matches and interactions with supporters generated significant engagement across platforms including Instagram, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter).

His growing online following has made him one of Africa’s most recognizable goalkeepers, with football fans applauding not only his performances but also his humility and professionalism.

Colo-Colo, Chile’s most successful football club, view the signing as an important addition to their squad.

The club has been looking to strengthen its goalkeeping department with an experienced player capable of providing stability and mentoring younger teammates.

Founded in 1925, Colo-Colo has won more Chilean league titles than any other club and remain the country’s only team to have lifted the Copa Libertadores, which they won in 1991.

Club officials believe Vozinha’s international experience and winning mentality will be valuable as they pursue domestic honours and continental success.

Vozinha has been a key figure for the Cape Verde national team for more than a decade. He has represented the Blue Sharks in multiple Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, tournaments and several FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns, establishing himself as one of the country’s most dependable players.

Known for his vocal leadership, excellent positioning and penalty-saving ability, he has captained the national team on several occasions and remains one of the most respected figures in Cape Verdean football.

Before joining Colo-Colo, Vozinha enjoyed spells with clubs in Portugal and Cape Verde, building a reputation as a reliable goalkeeper with exceptional consistency.

His career has been defined by perseverance rather than celebrity, making his recent rise to international fame even more remarkable.

Football observers note that his success demonstrates how major international tournaments can transform a player’s career regardless of age.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Vozinha expressed excitement about joining one of South America’s biggest clubs and thanked Colo-Colo for the confidence shown in him.

He said he was eager to contribute both on and off the pitch, help the team achieve its ambitions and continue representing Cape Verde with pride.

Supporters have welcomed the signing, hoping the veteran goalkeeper’s experience and leadership will strengthen Colo-Colo’s challenge for silverware this season.

With the move, Vozinha begins a new chapter in a career that has inspired football fans across Africa and beyond, proving that determination, consistency and resilience can open doors even at the highest level of the game.
