Real Madrid have ended months of speculation surrounding the future of Brazilian forward Vinicius Jr after announcing that the 26-year-old has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.

The Spanish giants confirmed the agreement in a statement on Thursday, extending the winger’s stay by five years beyond his previous deal, which was due to expire in 2027.

“Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr have agreed to extend our player’s contract, which now keeps him with the club through June 30, 2032,” the club said.

The club hailed the Brazil international as one of its most influential players, praising his contribution during one of the most successful eras in Real Madrid’s history.

“Vinicius has become one of the most important players during one of the most successful periods in our history,” the statement added.

The new contract effectively ends speculation linking the Brazilian with a move away from the Spanish capital. Premier League side Arsenal had been widely reported as monitoring his situation amid lengthy contract negotiations between the player and the club.

By securing the extension, Real Madrid have eliminated the possibility of losing one of their prized assets on a free transfer when his previous contract expired.

Vinicius has developed into one of the world’s finest attacking players since joining Real Madrid from Brazilian side Flamengo in 2018. Over the past eight seasons, he has made a significant impact, scored 128 goals and providing 100 assists across all competitions.

His performances have helped Real Madrid dominate both domestic and European football, with the winger winning two UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, and several other major honours.

Despite another impressive individual campaign, Vinicius endured disappointment on the international stage during the summer after representing Brazil at the FIFA World Cup. The five-time world champions were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Norway, ending their hopes of lifting the trophy.

The Brazilian is now expected to play a central role under returning manager José Mourinho, who began his second spell in charge of Real Madrid after replacing Álvaro Arbeloa earlier this year.

Mourinho’s appointment followed a disappointing season for the Spanish giants, who finished runners-up to fierce rivals Barcelona in La Liga, exited the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage and failed to win a major trophy.

Retaining Vinicius is regarded as a key part of Madrid’s rebuilding project as the club prepares for the new campaign.

The contract extension also continues an aggressive summer recruitment drive by the 15-time European champions. Real Madrid have already strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Yan Diomande, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Marc Cucurella, and Denzel Dumfries as Mourinho reshapes the team for the challenges ahead.

With his long-term future now secured, Vinicius is expected to remain one of the cornerstones of Real Madrid’s attack as the club seeks to reclaim both the La Liga and UEFA Champions League titles in the coming seasons.
