Grammy-winning music superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, will headline the opening night of Detty December Fest 2026, organizers have announced.
According to Livespot360, Wizkid is scheduled to take the stage on December 18, marking the beginning of the 13-day festival of music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment in Lagos. The festival will run until December 30.
The organizers said the 2026 edition would feature an expanded programme, including the introduction of a second performance stage designed to showcase emerging talents and new sounds from across Africa.
While Wizkid will headline the main Festival Stage, the newly introduced Pulse Stage will provide a platform for emerging artistes, rising performers and breakthrough talents shaping the future of African music.

The addition of the Pulse Stage is expected to broaden the festival’s entertainment offering by giving lesser-known artistes an opportunity to perform before large audiences while sharing the same festival space with established stars.
The 2026 edition follows the official launch of Detty December Fest in 2025, which attracted more than 40,000 festivalgoers to Lagos.

The inaugural edition featured performances from a combination of international and African music stars, including Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Wande Coal, Fave, Young Jonn, Qing Madi, Ice Prince, Jux and Wizkid.
The organizers said the success of the previous edition had encouraged them to expand the festival in 2026 with a wider range of music, cultural and entertainment experiences.
The festival is expected to bring together music lovers, tourists, artistes, fashion enthusiasts, food vendors and entertainment professionals during the busy December holiday period in Lagos.
Wizkid’s selection as the opening-night headliner is also expected to attract significant attention, given his status as one of Nigeria’s most internationally recognized Afrobeats artistes and his large following across Africa and beyond.
The festival will combine performances by established stars with opportunities for new artistes to gain exposure, particularly through the newly created Pulse Stage.
It was reported that Detty December has become one of Nigeria’s major holiday-season entertainment periods, with Lagos traditionally serving as a major destination for music, nightlife, culture and tourism activities during December.
The annual celebration has helped reinforce Lagos’ reputation as a major hub for Afrobeats, nightlife and entertainment, attracting Nigerians in the diaspora as well as international visitors.
With Wizkid set to headline the opening night, organizers are positioning the 2026 Detty December Fest as a larger celebration that will combine established music stars, emerging talent and a broader mix of cultural and lifestyle experiences.
