Nigeria’s champions, Edo Queens, began their WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifying campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing AS Garde Nationale of Niger 7-0 in their opening Group B fixture.
Edo Queens quickly established control of the encounter, putting their Nigerien opponents under sustained pressure from the opening minutes.
Chioma Moses opened the scoring in the fifth minute, giving the Nigerian champions an early advantage and setting the tone for a dominant performance.
Moses doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time after successfully converting a penalty, sending Edo Queens into the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
The Nigerian champions returned for the second half with renewed intensity as Atume Doosuur extended their lead just two minutes after the restart.
Doosuur struck again in the 56th minute to complete her brace before Aminat Folorunsho added another goal six minutes later, taking Edo Queens’ advantage to 5-0.

Moses completed her hat-trick in the 76th minute with another impressive finish, further underlining her influence on the match.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi then completed the scoring in the third minute of stoppage time as Edo Queens sealed a commanding 7-0 victory.
Moses was subsequently named Woman of the Match after her three-goal performance helped the Nigerian champions secure a perfect start to their qualifying campaign.
The victory gives the winning team an early advantage in their pursuit of qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League. The Nigerian side previously won the WAFU-B competition on their debut in 2024.
Ahead of the tournament, Edo Queens assistant coach Gabriel Benson expressed confidence in the team’s ability to deliver a strong performance and represent Nigeria and Edo State successfully.
“Edo Queens have all it takes to make the country proud. The girls are ready and good to go,” Benson said before the tournament.
Edo Queens will now turn their attention to their next Group B fixture against ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire on Wednesday.
They will then face Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa on Sunday as they continue their quest for another WAFU-B title and a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
