The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has invited a complainant to provide an official statement following a report of N40,000 extortion involving some personnel of the command.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, in a statement disclosed that the invitation followed a video circulating on social media in which police officers were accused of collecting N40,000 from an FCT resident.
Adeh said the incident occurred along Wuye-Utako Road, near Salem Church in the FCT, and that the command had taken steps to establish the circumstances surrounding the complaint.
According to her, the officers depicted in the viral video have been identified and are currently in custody as the command proceeds with its investigation.
She explained that the complainant’s statement would assist the police in establishing the facts of the case and guide further disciplinary action against the officers involved.
“The officers depicted in the video had been identified and are in custody, while the command invites the complainant to tender statement regarding the incident to aid disciplinary action,” Adeh said.

She urged the complainant to contact the command and provide the necessary information to support the investigation.

The police spokesperson reiterated that the FCT Police Command would not tolerate extortion, abuse of authority, misconduct or any form of unprofessional conduct by its personnel.
She said officers found culpable after due investigation would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action in line with existing laws and regulations.
Adeh also encouraged members of the public to report cases of police misconduct and provide information that could help the command investigate such incidents.
She assured residents that the command remained committed to accountability, professionalism and respect for the rights of residents across the Federal Capital Territory.
The command’s response comes amid growing calls for police personnel to maintain professionalism and uphold the rights of citizens while carrying out their duties.
Adeh maintained that the investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that appropriate measures are taken based on the outcome.
