The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league-phase draw has produced a series of blockbuster fixtures, with defending champions Paris Saint-Germain handed meetings with Barcelona and Manchester City, while Arsenal will face both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The draw took place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, with 36 clubs discovering their opponents for the league phase of Europe’s premier club competition.

Each team will play eight matches, facing two opponents from each of the four seeding pots. Every club will have four home and four away fixtures.

Champions PSG face one of the most eye-catching schedules after being drawn against Barcelona and Manchester City.

The French champions will host Barcelona and travel to Manchester City, while their other opponents are Roma, Aston Villa, Galatasaray, Villarreal, Slovan Bratislava and Como.

PSG retained the Champions League trophy last season after defeating Arsenal on penalties in the final, and they will now begin their title defense against another group of Europe’s strongest clubs.

Arsenal has also received a difficult draw, with the Premier League side set to face Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The Gunners will host Real Madrid and travel to Bayern, while their remaining opponents are Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis, Lille, Napoli, Sabah and Slavia Prague.

The meeting with Real Madrid will attract particular attention after Arsenal’s recent Champions League encounters with the Spanish giants.

Liverpool will face Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan among their eight opponents. The Reds will host Atletico and travel to Inter, while Porto, Club Brugge, Villarreal, Fenerbahce, Lens and LASK complete their league-phase schedule. Liverpool’s trip to Inter is expected to be one of their most demanding fixtures of the league phase.

Manchester City have also been handed a challenging schedule, with PSG and Barcelona among their opponents. City will host PSG and travel to Barcelona, while Sporting CP, Porto, Napoli, RB Leipzig, AEK Athens and Lens make up the rest of their schedule.

The trip to Barcelona could also see City come up against former midfielder Rodri, who moved to the Spanish club during the summer.

Manchester United’s return to the Champions League after a two-season absence begins with a difficult assignment.

The English club will host Bayern Munich and travel to Atletico Madrid. They will also face Roma, Sporting CP, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Sabah and Como.

The Bayern fixture carries historical significance, recalling the famous 1999 Champions League final between the two clubs.

Aston Villa also have two of Europe’s biggest clubs on their schedule. Villa will host PSG and travel to Barcelona, while Borussia Dortmund, Club Brugge, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Viking and Slavia Prague complete their eight opponents.

The Champions League continues with its expanded league-phase format, featuring 36 clubs and 144 matches across eight matchdays.

The league phase begins between September 8 and 10, 2026, with subsequent matchdays taking place in October, November, December and January. The final league-phase matches are scheduled for January 27, 2027.

The top eight teams will qualify directly for the round of 16. Teams finishing from ninth to 24th will enter a two-legged knockout play-off for the remaining eight places, while clubs finishing 25th or below will be eliminated from the competition.

The knockout phase play-offs are scheduled for February 2027, followed by the round of 16 in March, the quarterfinals in April and the semi-finals in April and May.

The Champions League final will take place on June 5, 2027, at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium.

UEFA is expected to announce the exact dates and kick-off times for each league-phase fixture by Saturday, August 29.

With several European giants drawn against one another, the 2026/27 Champions League is already shaping up to be another highly competitive campaign.
