Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has pledged to deliver Rivers State and the FCT to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Wike made the declaration on Wednesday during a media chat with selected journalists in Abuja, where he spoke about his political influence and preparations for the 2027 elections.

The former Rivers State governor said he remains in control of the political structure in Rivers State and the FCT, describing himself as the “general commander” of the political structure in the two areas.

“It is certain that I will deliver two states, FCT and Rivers for Tinubu. You don’t need a governor to be in charge; I’m the general commander of the political structure in Rivers. “In Rivers, I’m in charge. So also, the FCT,” Wike said.

The minister expressed confidence that his political structure and influence would be sufficient to mobilize support for Tinubu ahead of the presidential election.

Wike attributed his influence in Rivers State and the FCT to what he described as the loyalty of major political parties and political structures in the areas.

He maintained that political control was not necessarily dependent on holding the office of governor, stressing that his network remained strong enough to influence electoral outcomes.

His comments come as political parties and prominent politicians continue to reposition themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Wike’s declaration also comes amid ongoing political realignments in Rivers State, where different political groups have been working to strengthen their positions ahead of the elections.

The oil-rich state remains a major political battleground, with the emergence of a broader opposition alignment, commonly referred to as the “rainbow coalition”, adding to the political calculations ahead of 2027.

The minister’s pledge to deliver Rivers and the FCT for Tinubu is therefore expected to intensify political discussions over the strength of the various camps and their ability to mobilize voters in the two areas.
