Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims during a security operation in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The victims were rescued on September 2, 2026, after troops received credible intelligence about suspected terrorist activities around Mehinua Village along the Wasagu-Ayu Road.
The operation highlights the ongoing security efforts by military authorities to disrupt criminal activities, protect vulnerable communities and rescue people held captive by armed groups operating in parts of the North-West.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday.
Danja said the troops acted swiftly after receiving intelligence indicating the presence of suspected terrorists in the area.
The security personnel mobilised to the location along the Wasagu-Ayu Road and launched an operation aimed at confronting the suspected terrorists and securing the area.
According to the military, the timely response enabled the troops to make contact with the armed group before the victims could be moved to another location.
Danja said the troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a gun battle during the operation. The confrontation forced the terrorists to flee from the area, leaving the six kidnapped victims behind.
The troops subsequently moved in to secure the location and successfully rescued all six victims. The military said the victims were found unharmed, allowing them to be taken to safety following the encounter. In addition to rescuing the victims, the troops also recovered the vehicle involved in the incident.
The recovery of the vehicle is expected to assist relevant authorities as they continue efforts to establish more details about the kidnapping and identify those responsible.

Danja said the rescued victims and the recovered vehicle were subsequently handed over to relevant community authorities for further necessary action.
The development also provides an opportunity for authorities to obtain information from the victims that could support ongoing security efforts in the area.
The operation forms part of the broader efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to tackle terrorism, kidnapping and other forms of violent crime across Nigeria’s North-West region.
