Real Madrid opened their 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign with a 2-1 victory over Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday.

Despite trailing, Inter continued to threaten and enjoyed periods of possession as they searched for a way back into the contest. Courtois remained important for Madrid, making further saves as Inter pressed for a goal.
The Italian side eventually reduced the deficit in the 77th minute through Carlos Augusto. Lautaro Martínez helped create the opening before Augusto finished to make it 2-1 and give Inter renewed hope of securing a point.
Inter pushed forward in the closing stages, but Real Madrid held firm to secure all three points.
The result gives Madrid a winning start to their Champions League campaign, while Inter leave the Bernabéu without a point despite their strong spells of play.
The victory also highlighted Madrid’s efficiency in front of goal, with two first-half goals proving decisive after Inter had threatened early in the match.
