Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has commended the Department of State Services, DSS, over the arrest of three suspects linked to Thursday’s deadly attack on Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area of the state.
The attack claimed several innocent lives, including four police officers.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor described the arrests — the product of what he called a “prompt and professional operation” — as a significant step toward unravelling the full circumstances of the incident and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Alia condemned the assault as “a despicable attack on the peace-loving people of Ayilamo and a grave threat to the security and stability of Benue State,” adding that it was “a disturbing reminder of the persistent insecurity and repeated attacks on vulnerable communities and law-enforcement officers in the area.”
He described the killing of the four officers as “particularly painful,” saying it “underscores the enormous sacrifices being made by security personnel in the line of duty.”

The governor extended condolences to the people of Ayilamo, families of the victims and the entire Logo Local Government community, as well as to the Inspector-General of Police and the Benue State Commissioner of Police over the fallen officers.
“We mourn with you and assure you that you are not alone in this difficult period,” he said. “We honour their courage and sacrifice and pray that God grants their families, colleagues and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”
Alia urged the DSS to intensify its investigation and fully exploit information obtained from the suspects in custody, insisting that every lead be pursued to track down remaining accomplices, sponsors and collaborators.
“All those found culpable must face the full weight of the law,” he said.
The governor assured residents that his administration would continue working with security agencies to strengthen security in Ayilamo, Logo and other vulnerable communities across the state, pledging support for efforts to prevent further attacks and restore peace.
He appealed to residents of Ayilamo and surrounding communities to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, and to volunteer credible and timely information to security agencies while refraining from actions capable of heightening tension or undermining the ongoing investigation.
“We remain resolute in our determination to protect lives and property, uphold justice and restore lasting peace across Benue State,” he assured.
