Ima Niboro, a veteran journalist and former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, has been appointed as one of the spokespersons for President Bola Tinubu’s campaign council ahead of the 2027 general election.
Niboro’s appointment brings a former presidential spokesman into the campaign’s communications structure as the team moves to strengthen its media strategy and public messaging ahead of the election.
Niboro previously served as spokesperson to former President Goodluck Jonathan, where he was involved in communicating the administration’s policies, programmes and responses to major national issues.
He later became Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAN, overseeing the agency’s nationwide news-gathering operations as well as its international news activities.
His return to frontline political communications comes as the Tinubu campaign council expands its communications team with officials and media professionals drawn from journalism, government communications and political strategy.
The communications team is led by Dele Alake, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, with Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, serving as co-chairman.

Other members of the team include Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy; Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President and former Minister of Youth and Sports Development; Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties; and Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress.
The composition of the team reflects an emphasis on combining experience in traditional journalism, government media management and political communications as the administration prepares to take its message to voters ahead of the 2027 polls.
Niboro’s experience spans newsroom leadership and presidential communications, giving him familiarity with both the media environment and the demands of managing political messaging at the federal level.
As a former presidential spokesman, his appointment also adds an experienced communicator to a team expected to explain the administration’s policies, respond to criticism and shape public understanding of its achievements and priorities.
The communications structure is expected to focus substantially on the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda, including the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while presenting its policies and achievements to the electorate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The 2027 general election is expected to provide the political test for Tinubu’s administration, which began in May 2023. The president is seeking a second term under the platform of the APC.
With the election approaching, the campaign’s communications team will play a key role in coordinating the administration’s political messaging across traditional media, digital platforms and other channels as the contest gathers momentum.
