The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, says it will participate in the 2027 general elections after the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturned a Federal High Court judgement ordering the deregistration of the party.
The appellate court set aside the judgement delivered by Justice Isah Dashen of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, which had purportedly ordered the deregistration of the NDC.
“We want to use this opportunity once again to commend the Nigerian judiciary, and in particular, Hon. Justice Danjuma and Hon. Justice Hassan, for upholding the integrity of the Nigerian judiciary and, by their decisions, expanding the sphere of multiparty democratic participation in Nigeria,” Dickson said.
He said the NDC was established to expand multiparty democracy in Nigeria, adding that the Federal High Court judgement had created uncertainty over the party’s continued participation in the political process.
Dickson said the Court of Appeal’s decision had affirmed the party’s registration and its right to participate in political activities as a registered political party.
“I congratulate all members and candidates of our great party, the NDC, and thank Nigerians for their prayers and support,” he said.

He added that the party received several calls for support and prayers following the Federal High Court judgement, describing the appellate court’s decision as a positive outcome for its members and candidates.
“The NDC continues to exist. Our registration remains valid and subsisting, and we and all our candidates will participate in all elections in 2027 and beyond, by the grace of God,” Dickson said.
He urged party members to focus on preparations for the 2027 elections and the campaign ahead, saying the NDC would contest against the All Progressives Congress and other parties at the polls.
Dickson also alleged that attempts to influence or intimidate the judiciary would not affect the party’s resolve, saying the NDC remained confident in its message, members, candidates and support base.
He said the party would continue its efforts to promote multiparty democracy and prepare for the forthcoming elections.
