The All Progressives Congress, APC, has won all 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship positions in Saturday’s Local Government Elections in Enugu State, while the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in Yobe has accepted the outcome of the polls in the state.
The Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Christian Ngwu, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Enugu on Sunday.
Ngwu declared the election free and fair, saying it was conducted in accordance with the rules guiding the commission. He added that the commission would issue certificates of return to the winners.
Speaking after collecting his certificate of return, the Chairman-elect for Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Caleb Ani attributed the APC’s sweeping victory to the developmental projects of Gov. Peter Mbah. Ani urged residents to vote for Mbah in 2027 to enable him to continue his administration’s work.
The APC state Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike said the party’s victory demonstrated the dominance of the ruling party in the state.
“We will not rest as we push the developmental efforts of President Bola Tinubu and our amiable governor for the world to see.
“Tinubu, Mbah and all the APC candidates will be re-elected in 2027 because they have performed exceptionally well in the past three years,” Chukwunweike said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that results from the election show that APC chairmanship and councillorship candidates defeated their opponents by wide margins.
In Igbo-Eze South, the Chairman-elect, Chief Ugochukwu Ukwueze, secured all 51,033 votes cast, while his counterpart in Igbo-Eze North, Dr Chris Onyebuchi, also clinched all 137,751 votes cast.
In Aninri Local Government Area, Ugochukwu Nwanjoku secured 17,016 votes against his opponent from the BOOT party, Chief Emeka Amasie, who polled 2,006 votes.
Ani, the incumbent chairman and chairman-elect for Enugu South, polled 71,335 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mr A.A. Ugwu of the National Democratic Congress, who scored 1,311 votes.
Meanwhile, the Yobe chapter of IPAC has accepted the outcome of Saturday’s local government elections, describing the exercise as free, fair and credible.

The state Chairman of the council, Mr Umar Jajere, stated this in Damaturu on Sunday while reacting to the declaration of the results by the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission, YOSIEC, describing the successful conduct of the elections as a significant milestone in the political history of the state.
He commended the YOSIEC Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Yabani, and members of the commission for what he described as their meticulous planning and dedication.
According to him, transparency in the distribution of electoral materials, prompt accreditation and the transmission of results contributed to the success of the exercise.
Jajere also praised the chairmen and leaders of political parties for ensuring peaceful campaigns and the conduct of their supporters during the election.
He said the participation of political parties and adherence to electoral rules had helped strengthen democratic institutions in the state.
The IPAC chairman further commended civil society organizations and the media for their vigilance and objective reportage throughout the process.
He also lauded the security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Army and other security outfits deployed for the election.
According to him, the professionalism and vigilance of the security agencies helped create a peaceful environment for voters to exercise their franchise without fear of intimidation or violence.
Jajere congratulated the political parties that emerged victorious, noting that the APC secured the majority of the chairmanship seats across Yobe’s 17 local government areas.
He also congratulated the APC, Action People’s Party and Action Democratic Party on winning some councillorship seats.
He urged the elected chairmen and councillors to see themselves as servants of the people, irrespective of their political affiliations.
The IPAC chairman also thanked Gov. Mai Mala Buni for providing the necessary logistics, security and moral support for the electoral exercise.
He said the governor’s support contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election and the strengthening of democracy at the grassroots.
Jajere urged the elected officials to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate by prioritising the interests and development of their respective communities.
