Ekiti State is set for a major administrative shake-up as Governor Biodun Oyebanji clears out political appointments and dissolves several state boards ahead of his second-term inauguration.
The governor approved the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals, alongside the termination of appointments of political appointees as his administration gradually winds down its first term.
The affected political appointees include Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants to the governor.
However, the governor clarified that the dissolution does not affect chairmen and members of statutory commissions and other bodies specifically exempted from the directive.
Among the exempted institutions are the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.

The chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission will also remain in office, although the boards under their respective institutions have been dissolved. Oyebanji further exempted Directors-General and Technical Advisers from the termination of appointments.
The governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will also remain intact, in line with the governor’s earlier directive.
The governor’s decision comes as Ekiti prepares for the transition into his second term following his re-election in the June 20 governorship election.
Oyebanji won the election with 319,224 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Wole Oluyede, who polled 40,543 votes, while the African Democratic Congress candidate, Dare Bejide, secured 12,872 votes. The result gave Oyebanji a second consecutive mandate after he assumed office on October 16, 2022.
With his second inauguration scheduled for October 16, the latest directive marks the beginning of changes to the administrative structure that will support the governor’s next term.
Oyebanji expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their contributions to his administration and their service to the state.
He also wished them success in their future endeavours as the state prepares for the commencement of his second term.
