Madonna University has expelled some nursing students following their involvement in a trending social-media video recorded within a hospital environment.
The development was disclosed after the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) appealed to the university to reconsider the punishment.
NANS President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez said the students’ conduct was inappropriate and inconsistent with the ethics, discipline and professional standards expected of nursing students.
The association acknowledged the seriousness of the incident while appealing for clemency.
According to NANS, expulsion is a severe disciplinary measure that could significantly affect the students’ academic and professional futures. The association said the affected students had invested years, resources and hopes in pursuing careers in nursing.
NANS therefore urged Madonna University management to replace the expulsion with a stern warning, saying the students should be allowed to learn from their actions and continue their education. The association said it remains committed to discipline, moral conduct and academic excellence among Nigerian students.
