President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will kick off his 2027 re-election campaign in Kaduna on October 24, the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has announced.
On Friday, after briefing President Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on campaign preparations and the proposed schedule for his state visits, former Zamfara State governor Abdulaziz Yari disclosed the plan.
He said the President had approved the proposed campaign timetable, adding that the campaign would proceed to Rivers State and Maiduguri, Borno, after the Kaduna rally.
According to him, Tinubu will formally inaugurate the APC PCC, appointed a few months ago, on Oct. 14 at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Yari said the campaign timetable would be made public after the inauguration of the council.
On the prospects of opposition presidential candidates Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Yari dismissed their chances of defeating Tinubu, arguing that a presidential candidate needed nationwide support to win.

Yari questioned the opposition candidates’ ability to secure substantial support across both regions of the country, arguing that neither could win the presidency by relying heavily on one part of Nigeria.
He claimed that Tinubu had the backing of more than 20 states across the country, while challenging the opposition candidates to demonstrate comparable support beyond their respective regions.
He argued that electoral success required a strong presence in both the North and South, citing the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s past electoral difficulties as an example.
Yari said Buhari “had control of over 70 per cent at that time, over 11 states in the North and had no control of one in the South,” but “couldn’t make it all the way.”
By contrast, he claimed Tinubu controls “more than 10 states in the South, in the conservative estimate” and more than 10 states in the North.
The former governor also defended Tinubu’s record in office, saying the APC would campaign on what it considered the administration’s achievements rather than promises.
Yari was appointed Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in August 2026 to coordinate the party’s mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
